Nobel Women's Initiative

Women human rights defenders in sudan are gaining momentum: Youth-led political movements are calling for more women to be elected and given positions in the State, and Hala Abd Alahim of Haq has even become the first woman president of a political party.

Still, these brave women face sexual violence, prosecution and harsh punishment from government security forces. Over the past two weeks, 12 Sudanese women activists have been released from detention, where they were being held in secret with no access to family or legal support.
